Holistic Mathematics Workshops/Seminars
Paulstang@gmail.com
My goal is to reach out to those who are seeking creative mathematics for
their children, students, and selves: to answer the question "What really is mathematics (and how best to do
it)?" I also give classes in
geometric art to help people deepen themselves, find quiet, and improve their
usage of color and form in their lives.
Mandalas, non-decimal counting,
fractions, visual techniques, √2, √3, √5, Φ,
Platonic/Archimedic forms, Zometools, Astro-Logix, and Sacred Geometry are keys
to making mathematics better understood, more interesting, and practical for a
much greater percentage of the student population. How can we use them so that math is more enjoyable and
successful?
Teaching and lifelong study of math, history,
art, architecture, physics, chemistry, botany, astrology, geography, geology
and computers, have provided for the development of a working educational
program that links a myriad of subjects coherently to improve student effort,
interest, and career aspiration.
Experience teaching primary, high-school, and university students have
shown that this Waldorf inspired and ever-developing alternative material
improves results of instruction.
We can become Novo-Renaissance Humans. These techniques have been honed in the
classroom and have inspired teachers and artists who have attended the
following professional workshops:

"I" as Symbol in the Wheel of Life -
Seminars
Creating
and understanding Mandalas and symbols of power.
What
value do Mandalas and Symbols have Today?
Why
would I want to learn how to create them?
Do I
have a greater role in this world?
Mandala means "Circle". It is a guide, a way to stay balanced and find our center. As we do this, we can help others do the
same. The act of drawing Mandalas is
very calming. It is Being within Mandala. Our work together opens a beautiful path for
novice and experienced artist alike.
For fifty centuries, Humankind has
woven geometry into the most sacred of their architecture, and the humblest
forms of art, for meditation and for symbols of power. Da Vinci and Dali have explored its
depths. Not just human crafted, magical
forms are also found universally in nature.
We can learn fundamental steps in creating and understanding
Mandalas and well-known mystical symbols;
receive the tools with which to begin our own new symbolism, or recreate
the old; and expand our mind and consciousness beyond two or even three
dimensions.
Meet people with which new friendships might form as you
perhaps develop the circle around yourself.
The
workshop is given in four - 2 hour segments:
Opening Meditation, Flower of Life,
basic Mandala, color
3D shapes, Star of Solomon, Merkaba,
Qabbalah
Phi, Spirals, Yin/Yang, Triskellon,
Svastika and 5-pt. star
"The masters": Stonehenge,
Pyramids, Da Vinci, Atlantis
Brief Reflection: Our-selves
as an expression of Mandala.
Participants are asked to bring
compass, protractor, scissors and colored pens/pencils or water colors and
drawing tablet or paper.
Artistic Workshops given to date:

Geometry

Mandala.
